Q: If I am not a Stern student, can I still apply?

A: Yes! Contrary to popular belief, we are not a Stern-specific club, and we welcome consultants from all NYU Undergraduate schools. No prior business or consulting experience necessary!

Q: If I am a graduate student at NYU, can I still apply?

A: No. 180 Degrees Consulting - NYU is an undergraduate organization so we do not consider graduate applications.

Q: If I am studying abroad this semester, can I still apply?

A: Yes! We are more than happy to conduct Skype interviews for candidates who are abroad. As long as you will be studying at the New York campus the semester that you are applying for, you are certainly welcome to apply.

Q: If I am studying abroad next semester, can I still apply?

A: No. We stipulate that students must be at the New York campus the semester that they are applying for because the experience that 180DC provides goes beyond traditional training and education. Between client interactions, mentorship engagements with our professional partners, and social events for our branch, the true 180DC experience can only be captured as a student at the New York campus, so we insist on all active consultants to be studying in New York at that time. However, attending information sessions while you are still on campus is not a bad idea, as you are free to apply while you are abroad as long as you will be studying at the New York campus the semester that you are applying for.

Q: If I am a freshman / senior, am I still allowed to apply?

A: Recruitment is open to all NYU undergraduates! We encourage students of all years to apply as we believe that students of all ages and experience levels are capable of adding value to our organization. As long as you will be a NYU undergraduate student the semester you are applying for, you are welcome to apply!

Q: If I have previously applied for 180DC, am I still allowed to apply?

A: We welcome repeat applications, as the needs of our consulting teams are constantly evolving. While an applicant may not have been a strong fit for the organization during a previous semester, there may be opportunities better suited from them at a later time, so we encourage applicants to apply again. Over a quarter of our branch are members who have applied multiple times.

Q: Are there other positions besides Staff Consultant roles that 180DC is recruiting for?

A: We generally do not recruit externally for Project Manager or Consulting Director positions, as we believe experience within the branch is crucial for succeeding in these roles. We have, however, recruited externally for executive board positions. Should we recruit for such roles, there will be a separate application process tailored towards those positions.

Q: How do I make my application stand out?

A: We look to the personal statement as a distinguishing factor between a good candidate and a great candidate. The personal statement enables us to see what motivates each candidate towards our organization, what their passions are, and how they are interested in social impact and/or consulting. By providing more information regarding the personal statement, candidates are able to paint a picture of themselves that goes beyond their résumé.
